Sharing food infused with cannabis is better than puff, puff, pass when you want to share an intense high with your friends.

Enjoy the twinkle in their eyes as they savor the culinary dishes from your kitchen.

Use cannabutter or canna oil to stir-fry, as an element in your salad dressing, or to marinate poultry and meat. Cookies, brownies, and other edibles mixed with cannabis are a match made in heaven.

Cannabis-Infused Cooking Oil

Cannabis-infused cooking oil is an all-around cookery staple, use it for frying your favorite meat, baked goodies, or a condiment for your salad dressing. You have complete control over its preparation, choose the cooking oil base that satisfies your taste and cannabis strains that work well for you.

Coconut oil adds flavor to veggies, holds up like a pie crust, and stir-frying. Canola and vegetables have a mild flavor and can blend with many food recipes. If you crave something robust go for olive or avocado oil.

Recipe for canna oil

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of ground cannabis flower, or less for lighter strength
  • 1 cup of cooking oil base of your choice

Materials needed:

  • Strainer or cheesecloth
  • A hand grinder instead of a blender or a coffee grinder that powder the cannabis leaving a bad taste.
  • Saucepan, double-boiler, or slow-cooker.

Directions:

  1. You can grind the entire plant, only the flowers, or a bit of both. Do not grind into a fine powder.
  2. Combine oil and cannabis into a saucepan, double-boiler, or slow cooker on low heat for a few hours. Decarboxylation, THC activation, takes place. Avoid scorching or burning by adding a bit of water to the mixture and temperature should not exceed 245°F (118°C).
  3. Strain the mixture with cheesecloth, throw away the leftovers or use it as ingredients for other food products. The shelf life is at least two months and refrigeration will extend its life-cycle.

Cannabis Butter

Start your day on a high note with a spread of cannabis butter on your toast, bagel, or croissant.

Recipe for cannabis butter

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of butter
  • 1 cup (7-10 grams) of decarboxylated (decarb) ground cannabis

Directions:

  1. Decarb the cannabis in the oven. Preheat the oven to 245°F (118°C). Place buds on a non-stick tray, cover the tray with parchment paper to avoid sticking and insert into the oven. Set the timer for 30-40 minutes. Gently mix the buds with a light shake every 10 minutes to expose the surface area evenly.
  2. Use a hand grinder to grind the decarb cannabis.
  3. Melt 1 cup butter and 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Simmer on low heat and allow the butter to melt.
  4. As the butter melts, add the coarsely ground cannabis.
  5. Stir occasionally for 2 to 3 hours maintaining the heat between 160°F (71°C) to 200°F (93°C). The mixture should never come to a boil. Keep an eye on your butter as it cooks it burns easily.
  6. Place a funnel on top of the lid of the container and line it with cheesecloth. Pour the cooled butter over the cheesecloth and allow it to strain freely. Do not squeeze the cheesecloth, bad-tasting materials will push through.
  7. Refrigerate for about an hour. If water appears at the bottom of the container, lift the solid butter with a knife and remove the water.
  8. Test potency by spreading ½ teaspoon on snack and check how that dose affects you an hour later.

Granola Bars

Granola bars are loaded with THC and healthy nuts and an excellent cannabis snack. When stored in a sealed container it will last a week, if somebody doesn’t get to it sooner.

Recipe for granola bars

Ingredients:

  • 6 Tbsp Cannabis butter
  • 1/3 Cup Honey
  • 2 Tbsp Maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp Brown sugar
  • 1 Tsp Ginger powder
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 Cup Raisins
  • 1/2 Cup Roughly chopped almonds
  • 1/4 Cup Hazelnuts
  • 3 Cups Rolled oats
  • 1 Cup Bittersweet melted chocolate

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C), then line a 9 x 12 inches baking tray with parchment paper, set aside.
  2. Mix cannabis butter, syrup, honey, sugar, cinnamon, and ginger powder in a saucepan. On low heat, stir until sugar is dissolved.
  3. Remove from the heat and fold in the oats, raisins, all nuts, and fold everything together until evenly coated in the syrup.
  4. Transfer the granola mixture to the prepared baking tray and press down using your spatula into one evenly packed layer.
  5. Bake the Cannabis granola bars for 25 minutes, until golden brown and toasted on top.
  6. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Once cooled, cut them  into 1 1/2 x-inch bars.
  7. Melt the chocolate in a microwave and carefully pour over the granola bars.
  8. Enjoy!

Consider the effects you want to achieve

With all the ingredients and equipment ready, your delectable cannabis meal will be prepared in a jiffy. There are myriad ways to control the effects you wish while enjoying the dish you cooked.

If you want a high CBD content, choose from a sedating Indica or a zippy Sativa. Use cannabis strains with low THC levels. The amount of cannabis depends on your recipe or whether you want leftovers. Usually an ounce will do, be sure to dry the flower out before you use it.

To keep cannabinoids from burning, cook at or below 284°F (140°C) or even 248 (120°C).

Relax and savor the meal you made, give it at least 30-60 minutes per serving before the effect kicks in. Eat slowly there are different doses in every bite. Remember to start low and go slow, don’t get too high you might get overdosed.

A patient should seek advice from a doctor or certified cannabis coach for the proper dosage of cannabis.

1:1 Ratio for cooking

The danger of using homemade cannabis-infused oil or butter is that you don’t know precisely the THC or CBD content in a spoonful. Use cannabis strains with a CBD:THC ratio of 1:1 or a higher content of CBD such as 2:1, 3:1, or more to negate any psychoactive effects. You can also mix equal parts CBD hemp flower with a THC strain to make ratios.

To be safe use small amounts, start with a half teaspoonful in your meal prep.

Baking

Cannabutter or canna oil are great alternatives in making edibles. Most bakers prefer canna coconut oil in their sweet treat since it is vegan and Mediterranean-friendly. Olive oil has a strong flavor that will alter the flavor of the food.

Cooking

Olive, peanut, coconut, or canola oils infused with cannabis are great ways of getting high while enjoying every bite of your meat. Use it to sauté vegetables, marinate meat, or as a vinaigrette in your veggies, all will come out delicious. Bear in mind that the effect is slow to set in, stronger, and lasts longer than toking.
